Lately, I've been feeling angry about everything. I couldn't understand why this was happening.
As I was walking around campus today, after leaving the language lab, I decided to put my music away and really think about why I've been either upset, angry, or just numb. My conclusion was the people in my life affect me. I don't mean everyone in my life, but the people I've allowed myself to get close to or the people I've looked up to. I keep feeling like I'm always getting hurt by them. When I try to talk to them about it two things happen.
1. I get very frustrated and raise my voice and just go into the whole "You don't know how I feel" speech which makes me sound like a very emotional teen.
or
2. The other person gets frustrated and constantly defends themselves or just ignores me..
This isn't directed towards anyone specific. It just goes to show that a lot of people are very similar in trait. I'd like to think that we are all unique, but sometimes it's hard when I keep getting the same reactions from people.
Today was the angry day. Literally, I just felt angry at everything. I feel I have no one to talk to. I have my Faith and sometimes I lack the routine. Routine isn't all that bad when you think about it. Typically, good habits form from routines.....sometimes.
I hate putting things off. I like to confront problems and talk, people don't seem to like that. It's like they think that when there's a problem it'll magically go away if you don't talk about it and just let it linger. The term "there's an elephant in the room" makes so much more sense now. I'm a little "term impaired" lol.
Stone Sours new album "House of Gold and Bones, Pt. 1" is a very good album. I would give it 4/5 based off of certain songs. Some songs took a little getting use to, but after few listens they became very good. I think there are two songs I'm just okay with, but everything else shines pretty well. What I like about it also is that it has songs you can sing to. Lyrics are heart felt and intelligent which is good. Especially with what's out today. I figured I would rate every song and give a little of my opinion about each one just to give you a brief idea. I do recommend you go out and listen to the album yourselves. It's very good.
Gone Sovereign: 5/5 - This was a very good song and a great opener for the album. I love it when he just yells "This is mine!" So awesome lol. Favorite part to sing to is "So scatter all my ashes when I'm dead and shatter every legend in my head." The guitars are pretty well done. Some parts are simple, but the solo does shine pretty well and the drums do a very good job at keeping the rhythm. Bass in this song is pretty much what you can expect from bass. Just playing with the guitar. The ending chant of the song does get a little annoying, but it's supposed to lead in Absolute Zero.
Absolute Zero: 5/5 - Very good single to release for an album. The chorus is very catchy and fun to sing to. Guitars do a very solid job in this song. There is a certain part in the solo that just reminds me of Slipknots "Psychosocial." Right at 2:24 to 2:27 of "Absolute Zero," compare that to "Psychosocial" 2:24 to 2:30. The drums do a pretty well job at keeping the rhythm as usual and bass, same thing. This song is really meant for the guitars and vocals. Very well done.
A Rumor of Skin: 4/5 - Man the pre-chorus and chorus are just so damn catchy. (The chorus is the title of the blog, lol.) I just love singing a long to it. The verses are just okay, It's one of the reasons why it got a 4 out of 5 on my list. It's still a very good song. Solo shines pretty well and the drums keep nice low beat to kind of bring an atmospheric touch. Bass still just keeping the beat. The ending chorus is another awesome part too. Especially with Corey harmonizing with himself. Great, great touch.
The Travelers, Pt. 1: 3/5 - I don't dislike this song, but it's not my favorite. I feel like it's a good transition to the next song "Tired." Guitars are not too bad, good chord patterns. The pick up in the song right where he says his "I don't need" lines, is good.
Tired: 5/5 - I love this song, definitely one of my favorites off this album. Just a great opening verse "I'm alive in here, so alive in here." When you you hear how this song starts off and the verse you can see why I think "A Rumor of Skin" is pretty much the build up to this song. Overall the vocals are very well done and very fun to sing to. Gives you a good pump of endorphins, if you get that from music. I know I do. :) Guitars are good especially in the beginning. The solo is pretty good. Drums do a very good job in this song especially closer to the end. The bass isn't too bad at all either. Probably one of the tracks he does a lot better in.
Ru486: 5/5 - Funny thing, I had to listen to this song a few times, because at first I disliked this song. This song is pretty awesome and if they come here for a concert I would love to hear this. It just seems like it carries a lot of energy. Chorus is definitely for the crowd. I even find myself yelling this in the car while I'm driving. Guitars are just awesomely heavy and the solo is just and awesome jam fest. The drums are pretty good too. I do wish to hear double bass from time to time. Bass, of course can't do much because every other instrument is pretty much knocking it out of the way lol.
My Name Is Allen: 4/5 - This song is pretty good. I really enjoy the verse, it's just executed so well. Pre-chorus is good and man I enjoy Corey Taylor when he screams. Chorus is where it lacks for me. It's just feels like it's missing something. The drums to me are pretty basic, just follows the pattern of the guitar and such. They do sound pretty good right after the solo though. Bass doesn't do much. The guitars are pretty good. The solo is where it does very well for itself.
Taciturn: 4/5 - Out of the two calmer songs, Taciturn is definitely the better one. I like the acoustic in this song. It plays very well to the tune of Corey's voice, or maybe it's the other way around. Corey sings very well in this song, especially for a guy whose voice sounds a little hoarse. It fits though and I honestly can't see anyone singing it better than him. Halfway through the song the entire band kicks in to bring the powerful balad punch it needs. The guitar does well for itself in the solo. The drums follow a basic pattern and just plays to the mood of the song. Bass does the same as well, but you may hear him do something special here and there.
Influence of a Drowsy God: 4/5 - This song transitions well after the last song "Taciturn." The drums do a pretty good job here especially in the chorus. The guitars are pretty basic here. Just keeping a simple rhythm. The solo is where the guitar definitely comes out. The bass is pretty good here. Simple notes but at least it's not exactly with the guitar. Vocals is where this song truly shines. Especially right at 3:09 to 3:25 easily the best part of the song when it comes to vocals. I feel this song was mainly for the Corey's voice and it did well at that.
The Travelers, Pt. 2: 5/5 - I just really like everything in this song. Guitars, bass, drums, and vocals, it all came together well and it definitely beats "The Travelers, Pt. 1" by a A LOT. The chorus is great and the song is great.
Last of the Real: 5/5 - This song starts off with just a strong bass and kicks in with the guitars and when the vocals come in you just get pumped. Drums are awesome as well especially right around the pre-chorus. Chorus is awesome! This is just a great finisher to part 1 of the album. Overall you can't pick one part that makes the song shine everyone just does so well.
I hope you enjoyed reading my review of Stone Sours new album. I'm sorry it took so long and I guarantee you that next time that won't happen. I apologize for my earlier message before the review. I just really had to vent and like I said I really don't feel like there is anyone to talk to, so I just blogged about it.
